Sichuan Tourism University News Network (Correspondent:ZhangYuan)From 26 to 30 May, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, hosted the 20th Plenary Session of ISO/TC 228, the International Organization for Standardization’s Technical Committee on Tourism and Related Services. ISO-accredited experts from over 30 nations – including China, Brazil, Spain, the US, Italy, South Korea and Japan – gathered for the event. Zhang Yuan, Dean of the School of Foreign Languages at Sichuan Tourism University (SCTU), attended as an invited participant.

She held detailed cross-border talks with global experts covering the drafting, revision and global rollout of tourism-related ISO standards.

SCTU leads the development of this sustainable tourism standard, marking Sichuan’s first ever leadership role on an international tourism industry standard. The project kicked off formally in January 2024, with all workstreams advancing smoothly. The draft is set to enter the Draft International Standard (DIS) voting phase this December.

The plenary acted as a key forum for advancing worldwide collaboration on tourism standardization. As lead body representative, Zhang Yuan contributed actively to panel discussions, strengthening SCTU’s and Sichuan’s standing and representation within the global tourism standards ecosystem.
