Cheng Li is a highly regarded professor at Sichuan University, where he serves as a doctoral supervisor. In 2020, he was recognized as an academic and technical leader in Sichuan Province. He is also the Vice President and Director of the Academic Committee of the Sichuan Tourism Association, Director of its Mountain Tourism Professional Committee, and Editor-in-Chief of the "International Journal of Tourism Anthropology." Furthermore, he holds the position of Vice Chairman of the Tourism Geography Professional Committee of the China Geographical Society. Dr. Cheng was honored in May 2019 as one of the "Outstanding Contributors to Sichuan Tourism Innovation on the 40th Anniversary of Reform and Opening Up."
Dr. Cheng has had numerous international academic exchanges, including visiting scholar positions at the Department of Geography and Environmental Management at the University of Waterloo (Canada), the Tourism Research Center at Purdue University (USA), the Department of Economics at the University of Barcelona (Spain), and the University of Uva Wellassa (Sri Lanka). He co-founded the China-Sri Lanka International Center for Interdisciplinary Culture Heritage & Tourism Research, where he serves as the Chinese-side director.
An accomplished researcher, Dr. Cheng has led several national and provincial-level projects, including four National Natural Science Foundation projects and major provincial and ministerial-level initiatives. He has published over 100 academic papers in prominent international journals, such as Annals of Tourism Research, Tourism Management, Society & Natural Resources, and Journal of Destination Marketing & Management. His contributions to the field have earned him multiple prestigious awards, including the second prize from the National Tourism Administration and multiple prizes from Sichuan Province.
