Professor Liu Yong is an esteemed academic with over 30 years of research experience in mountain tourism. He has traveled to over 120 countries and regions across all seven continents, summited multiple 6,000-meter peaks, and pioneered key trekking and climbing routes, such as the "Shikula Path" and "South China Sea Dragon Horn Peak." In 2023, he accomplished the extraordinary feat of an unpowered solo canoe crossing of the Atlantic Ocean. His extensive fieldwork in mountainous regions has resulted in over one million words of interview transcripts and 600GB of audiovisual materials. Professor Liu is the Director of the Mountain Tourism Research Institute and the Head of the Key Laboratory of Plateau Mountain Outdoor Equipment & Intelligent Technology at Sichuan Tourism University. He holds numerous prestigious academic appointments, including ISO Expert, Secretary-General of the Sichuan Provincial Culture and Tourism Standardization Technical Committee, Vice Chairman of the Chinese Family Education Association, and Member of various international and national academic committees. His research focuses on mountain sustainable development, adventure culture, mountain tourism, and community engagement, as well as mountain oral history. Professor Liu has led over 40 national and international research projects, published 7 monographs, 2 popular science works, and over 60 academic papers, while contributing to the development of several international and national standards and holding multiple invention patents.
